Hortus Eystettensis was published by Basilius Besler in Nuremberg in 1613.  Besler was a pharmacist in charge of the gardens of Johann Konrad von Gemminger, Prince Bishop of Eichstatt, near Nuremberg.  Most of the plants were grown in this garden.  This monumental enterprise, composed of 374 copper plate engravings, took 16 years to produce.  Each of the four parts is devoted to a season and the results are generally acknowledged to be elegant and decorative as well as botanically accurate.
